Erick Chávez Urbano

Erick Chávez Urbano graduated from the Universidad Tecnológica de la Mixteca (UTM) as a Mechatronics Engineer and is currently finishing his thesis to obtain his degree. His thesis focuses on the development of a differential mobile robot with caterpillar tracks for spraying green areas, combining his experience in robotics, automation and programming. This work not only strengthens his technical skills, but also fuels his passion for leveraging technology to generate positive social impact.

During five years at UTM, Erick actively participated in Enactus Hub UTM, where he contributed to the management of social impact projects, these initiatives taught him how technology can address the needs of communities, particularly in indigenous and rural areas of Oaxaca.

Erick’s commitment to innovation extends to his participation in the NASA 2024 Oaxaca Space Apps Challenge, where his team, Mixtecnautas, reached the semifinals. Formed during the challenge, Mixtecnautas has given conferences on space science outreach, promoting scientific curiosity in communities in Oaxaca.

Erick’s interest in joining Young Leaders in AI stems from his desire to leverage technology such as artificial intelligence to address challenges in indigenous and rural communities like those in Oaxaca, where he grew up. He believes AI can drive innovative solutions to improve the quality of life in these regions. Erick hopes to bring his technical expertise, cultural perspective, and dedication to social good by collaborating on initiatives that foster an inclusive and equitable technological future.
