Burak Akçapar

Ambassador Burak Akçapar is Türkiye’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Geneva, Conference on Disarmament and other international organizations. He previously served as the Deputy Foreign Minister of Türkiye, Ambassador to Spain, Permanent Representative to the UN World Tourism Organization, Ambassador to India, Deputy Chief of Mission in Washington DC and Doha, member of NATO International Staff and Vice Consul in Hamburg. While Ambassador to India, he was concurrently accredited to Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Nepal. At his 37th year at Foreign Ministry he still considers policy planning to be his passion after three tours on the file including as Director General for Policy Planning. Dr. Akçapar studied political science at Boğaziçi University and international law at Universitaet Hamburg. Since 2011 he holds the rank of Associate Professor in Turkish Academia. As professor he taught Political Risk Analysis and International Security at ETU and METU in Ankara.

He is the author of several books and manuscripts, including People’s Mission to the Ottoman Empire (Oxford University Press) and Turkey’s New European Era (Rowman & Littlefield). Ambassador Akçapar was awarded the NATO Secretary General’s Award for Excellence and the Royal Order of Spain (Encomienda de Numero).

In addition to his day job and academic interests, Dr. Akçapar currently studies the potential of AI, quantum social science and big data on strategic foresight and anticipatory governance.
