Arnd Bätzner

Arnd Bätzner provides consulting and government advisory on the alignment of multi-modal transit systems with the built environment and strategic land use planning. Focus areas include physical and data integration of future autonomous and demand-responsive transport with high-capacity modes, designs of passenger intermodal facilities and bus electrification strategies. Holding a master in physics and a major in transit management from ETH Zurich, Arnd is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of St.Gallen’s Institute for Systemic Management and Public Governance: His academic research focuses on urban elevated walkability enhancers such as skybridges, cable cars and people movers.

Arnd has been directing projects in Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas for both the public and private sector. From 2011 to 2023, he was a non-executive director of Switzerland’s nationwide Mobility Car Sharing system, in charge of market foresight. He co-directed the development of the Swiss Federal strategy on data exchange in future Autonomous driving.

Arnd is co-chairing the Austrian Ministry of Transport’s strategic advisory board on research, technology and innovation. For the World Public Transport Association UITP, he is a trainer on bus electrification and shared mobility integration worldwide. Arnd chaired UITP’s trolleybus committee and is a founding member of its Shared Mobility Committee. For a decade, he has been a member of TRB’s committees on and on Rail Transit Systems and on Emerging and Innovative Public Transportation Technologies.
