Alexey Kalachev

Alexey Alekseevich Kalachev, born in 1969, graduated from the Physics Department of Kazan State University in 1992 with a degree in physics. He defended his PhD thesis in 1997. From 1997 to 2015, he worked as a researcher at the E.K. Zavoysky Kazan Institute of Physics and Technology of the KazNC RAS. In 2010-2011, he was a researcher at Texas A&M University, USA. In 2011, he defended his doctoral thesis on “Collective spontaneous radiation and optical quantum memory.” From 2015 to 2020, he was the head of the Kazan Institute of Physics and Technology, and from 2021 to the present, he is the director of the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2022, he has been a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The main areas of scientific activity are related to research in the field of quantum optics (spontaneous parametric scattering), coherent and nonlinear optics (photonic echo, optical superradiance) and quantum optical technologies (optical quantum memory, single-photon sources, quantum communication).
