    The ophthalmology field has been the source of extensive innovation in artificial intelligence for health care, including the first FDA-approved autonomous AI system (for diabetic retinopathy). The goals of this talk are to: (1) summarize key ophthalmology diagnostic challenges where AI has potential to assist clinicians, (2) give examples of AI work toward addressing these diagnostic challenges, and (3) outline remain unanswered questions and describe initiatives from the National Eye Institute and National Institutes of Health that are intended to address those questions.
