The difference between how machines think and how we think

Did you ever go to class without knowing anything and just talk your way through it? Robots do that all the time! And sometimes they do it without even realizing it. In this session, we will  learn how that works, see why robots sound smart but mess up, and play with one to break and fix its brain.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Define the concept of a token in language models and explain its role in machine language processing.
    • Compare the processing method of large language models to human thinking, highlighting key differences in handling context.
    • Analyze why language models are prone to generating confident but incorrect answers (hallucinations).
    • Apply knowledge of language model behavior by identifying examples of machine-generated errors and suggesting possible improvements.
