Ingrid Vanden Berghe

Jonkvrouw Ingrid Vanden Berghe is General administrator at the Belgian national mapping agency, National Geographic Institute.

A well-respected leader within the international geospatial community, she represents Belgium on the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management and is currently its co-chair. Between 2012 and 2018, she was President of EuroGeographics and she continues to play a key role in promoting the value of the data and expertise provided by its members, the European National Mapping, Cadastral and Land Registration Authorities.

Ingrid has a master’s degree in bio-engineering (soil sciences) and started her professional career as a scientist at the Leuven University in 1985, studying the modeling of soil erosion and sedimentation, before joining the public service. She was advisor to the minister of Environment and of Public works and land management, and head of the CEPESS study Centre before being appointed in her current position in 2002.

Ingrid is a non-executive board member in several research institutes and chairs the board of the Flemish research institute VITO.
