Extreme Weather AI

Extreme Weather AI

Can we predict extreme weather events using satellites the size of a Rubik’s cube? Can we create height maps of the tops of clouds from videos taken from an airplane flying 7 km above them? NASA’s newest satellites are getting more compact and cost-effective, while their research aircraft are capturing unprecedented HD footage of cloud formations. Through innovative machine learning techniques, we’re combining data from multiple sources—cameras, lightning sensors, LiDAR, and microwave instruments—to revolutionize how we monitor our atmosphere. Our research creates detailed 3D maps of clouds and reconstructs critical ice formation data that traditionally required much larger satellites. Visit our booth to see real-time visualizations of cloud formations, understand how AI processes multiple data streams simultaneously, and explore interactive weather models that could help predict the next major storm. You might be surprised to learn which combination of sensors best predicts severe weather!
