Antonio Franchi

Antonio Franchi is a roboticist, specializing in mathematical methods for modeling and control, and on the conception, design, and physical realization of robots. His expertise lies in the development of multi-robot and aerial robot systems to assist humans in hazardous, challenging, and monotonous environments.

A Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Franchi holds joint appointments as Full Professor in Aerial Robotics Control at the University of Twente (EEMCS Faculty, RAM department) and Full Professor at the Sapienza University of Rome (DIAG department). Previously, he held positions as a Permanent Researcher at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in France and a Senior Research Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Germany. Franchi holds a master’s degree (summa cum laude) in Electronic Engineering and a Ph.D. degree in System Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy.

As a Principal Investigator in numerous international research projects in inspection, maintenance, and construction of industrial and civil infrastructures, Franchi has contributed to the advancement of aerial robotics and multi-robot systems. His extensive research has resulted in over 170 peer-reviewed international publications.
