In an era where urbanization, and population growth amplify the impact and frequency of disasters, Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers transformative potential to enhance resilience and preparedness. This workshop explores how Human-Centered AI can play a pivotal role in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) by focusing on end-users, especially vulnerable communities.

    Key questions addressed include:

    • How can we implement Human-Centered AI effectively in DRR using standards?
    • How does the design of AI solutions vary based on the target end-user?
    • What tangible benefits does Human-Centered AI bring to DRR efforts?
    • Through real-world case studies—ranging from AI-driven route optimization tools for postaoperators to AI-based flood forecasting systems for meteorological services and community-oriented chatbots—participants will gain insights into successful applications and their impact.

The session will also highlight best practices and frameworks established by the ITU/WMO/UNEP Focus Group on AI for Natural Disaster Management, emphasizing the role of standards in promoting transparency and accessibility. It will set the stage for future activities conducted by the Global Initiative on Resilience to Natural Hazards through AI Solutions. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how tailored, user-centric AI solutions can empower communities and drive effective disaster preparedness and response.

Join us to discover practical approaches, share experiences, and contribute to shaping the future of Human-Centered AI in disaster resilience.
