Shijie Jiang

Shijie Jiang

Dr. Shijie Jiang is a hydrologist working on the interdisciplinary  application of machine learning in the field. His research interests  cover many aspects of the application of novel intelligent techniques  (especially computer vision and interpretable deep learning), from camera-based rainfall data acquisition to using  intelligent techniques to empower hydrological modeling capabilities,  and using explainable machine learning to gain a better understanding of  hydrological systems. He completed his Ph.D. at the National University of Singapore (2021) and is currently a  postdoctoral researcher at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental  Research (UFZ). His current research focuses on integrating hydrological  theory and machine learning to understand the water cycle and extreme events under climate change. Dr. Jiang also works to  foster the application of knowledge-integrated machine learning to Earth science questions more broadly and is dedicated to developing a general  framework for physics-AI-data hybrid modeling.
