ITU AI/ML in 5G Challenge — India Round– Part 1: 5G + AI + Immersive + Assistive Services in Telecommunications
The talk will focus on three challenges which use AI tools to build on computer vision techniques for providing (i) immersive, (ii) assistive services in telecommunications enabled use-cases. In two of the challenges, the participants will have to design AI based tools to provide enhanced experience in an online unified communications setting. The idea is to build tools that make the experience natural and content easy to consume. In the first part of the presentation, we introduce recent developments in VR/AR technologies and 3D models along with various datasets and softwares/tools which are used in bringing shared experiences to life. In continuation, we talk of mechanisms to efficiently encode and transmit multi-modal signals, and design perceptive user interfaces. Together they enhance the immersiveness of the experience. The second part of the talk focuses on solutions for unstructured road conditions with unmarked lanes, potholes, heterogeneous nature of traffic, varying road conditions etc., and how the data acquired from the vehicular sensors can leverage ML for building inference and recommendation engines.

BREJESH LALLProfessorIndian Institute of TechnologyBrejesh Lall (Ph.D., Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi 1999) is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in India where he is in-charge of the Samsung Digital innovations Academy. Earlier, he was the head of Bharti School of Telecom Technology and Management and Ericsson 5G center of Excellence at IIT Delhi. His work focuses on signal processing and machine learning for telecommunications and computer vision.
