AI systems are reshaping how young people learn, communicate, work, and understand themselves. Algorithmic recommendation engines influence mental health outcomes. Generative AI is transforming education and employment at a pace that outstrips young people’s ability to navigate it. And yet, the Policy processes shaping these systems, the standards, safeguards, and policy frameworks, are built almost entirely without the structured, informed input of the population most affected by them.
This is not a marginal gap. It is a structural failure. The absence of representative youth voices from AI Policy does not just create a legitimacy problem. It produces frameworks that miss critical realities, fail to anticipate emerging harms, and lose the trust of the next generation.
The EMEA Youth AI & Wellbeing Deliberation is a structured, evidence generating initiative that places young people, not as passive subjects of AI policy, but as informed, deliberating agents, at the centre of the conversation.
Across approximately 13 countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, the project will convene full day deliberative sessions involving ~120 young people (aged 16–28) per country. Participants receive balanced, expert verified briefing materials on AI’s documented impacts on mental health, education, employment, and digital environments. Facilitated small group discussions enable genuine, informed reflection. Structured outputs, policy recommendations, priority rankings, qualitative insights, are aggregated into an EMEA wide evidence base.
This is not a consultation. It is not a survey. It is a deliberative process: one that moves participants from uninformed opinion to grounded collective judgment, producing independent evidence that policymakers and AI product teams can actually use.
