  • The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is hugely overlooked by the Western mainstream when it comes to discussing the future of artificial intelligence. Recognizing the vital importance of diversity in the global debate on what AI is and should be, this event marks the launch of the report “Imagining a Future with Intelligent Machines: A Middle Eastern and North African Perspective” (2021). The event, co-organised by the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence at the University of Cambridge and the Access to Knowledge for Development Center at the American University in Cairo, brings together regional experts and authors of the report to examine the visions of technological futures spreading in the Arab world and how they relate to on-the-ground realities of AI development in MENA. This project was initiated at the AI for Good Global Summit in 2018.
