Connecting with AI changemakers in Cannes: AI for Good on the Road
- 16 February 2024
AI for Good travelled across France last week for two important AI Events.
At the ETSI AI Conference, Status, Implementation and Way Forward of AI Standardization, Fred Werner, Head of Strategic Engagement, presented “New Technological Trends and Standardization Activities at the ITU on AI” on Wednesday, 7 February, sharing insights on how ITU standards are helping everyone capitalize on advances in AI. The conference focused on the topic of globally applicable ICT standards for industry and society.
Then, for the second year in a row, ITU partnered on the Cannes Neurons Awards at the World AI Cannes Festival (WAICF). These international awards recognize and honor the most innovative, original, and daring #AI projects aimed at creating a better world. The awards are divided into four categories: Inclusive AI, Sustainable AI, Creative AI, and a Special Jury Prize. The Special Jury Prize, recognizing projects that use AI for the creation of a better future, was presented by Fred Werner.
This year’s winners include: SoundX, Audio Innova, Latitudo 40. Learn more about them here.
In addition, Fred Werner took part in a panel discussion, “How to Operate Ethical AI by Design” on Friday, 9 February with Albena Kuyumdzhieva, Jean-Gabriel Ganascia, and moderated by Lisa Thee, which underscored the importance of responsibility in technology development. He also gave a keynote presentation on AI for Good at the Applications Stage.
In Cannes, the AI for Good team also met with key partners including Dr. Ebtesam Almazrouei, a leader and visionary in AI to discuss plans for a new AI for Good Initiative to make an impact on the SDGs. They also held a key meeting with Alessandra Sala from Shutterstock, as the AI for Good Art Contest, Canvas of the Future, is open now for submissions.
Together these two events helped to connect changemakers in AI. In the WAICF exhibition floor, AI for Good joined up with the start-ups ImpactScope, SI Analytics, and The Robot Studio, to showcase latest innovations in AI and robotics to support the Sustainable Development Goals.
